Writing for Young Adults (ages 11-13)
Total sessions: 15 (1 hour per session)
Sessions 1-3 Literary Appreciation Learners will have a meaningful understanding of local and global literature as well as the tools to express their understanding
Sessions 4-6 Figures of Speech These sessions will develop learners' fundamental skills in identifying and using figures of speech in sentences.
Sessions 7-9 Creative Writing Learners will be introduced to the different techniques used in writing fiction, poetry, and drama. Final output will be their own creative writing project.
Sessions 10-12 Mastering the Art of Essay Writing In this class, students will be taught the elements of a short story, and they will be trained how to create an effective storyline with a good plot, characterization, and theme. This class is intended for young writers who wish to use their power of imagination and turn them into literary pieces, specifically short stories.
Sessions 13-15 Writing a Short Story In this class, students will learn how to write effective essays that are coherent and cohesive. Specifically, learners will be taught how to construct informative, persuasive, narrative and expository essays that will allow them to improve their writing and communication skills.
